Educators are confronted with an enormous variety of assessment data. When used appropriately, they can adjust their instructional practices to more closely meet their students’ learning needs. This webinar series helps administrators and teachers enact assessment literacy to improve student achievement. Participating within a school-based learning team, educators will be introduced to the elements of quality local assessment systems and learn how to differentiate and integrate informative assessment practices into their schools and classrooms.

Webinar #2 - March 10
Using Standards and Learning Targets to Assess Student Understanding
Clear learning expectations are a crucial component of assessment. Both teachers and students benefit from clear learning targets. These targets allow students to take ownership of their learning as they track and reflect on their academic growth. Teachers are able to focus instruction on what is essential for students to know and be able to do.
During this webinar, we will examine the instructional implications of unpacking standards and creating learning targets. Using grade-level expectations, we will demonstrate a process for unpacking standards into measurable learning targets and criteria for success. Having an understanding of learning targets will become the foundation for promoting the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Webinar #3 - March 24
Analyzing Effective Assessment Practices
Learn how to apply basic design considerations for creating common assessments that include multiple-choice items, constructed-response items, and/or performance tasks. By looking at and examining samples of student work, participants will develop a better understanding of how the assessments connect to learning targets, to student misconceptions, and to student learning needs. School-based learning teams will have the opportunity to share strategies for promoting conversations about the effective use of assessment to improve student achievement.
