ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS

A total of 123 participants attended the Summer Institute from 13 rural Alaska school districts. Many schools brought teams of Administrators and Teachers.

The following school districts were represented at the Summer Institute:

• Alaska Gateway School District

• Bering Strait School District

• Chatham School District

• Kuspuk School District

• Lake and Peninsula Borough

• Lower Kuskokwim School District

• Lower Yukon School District

• North Slope Borough

• Northwest Arctic Borough

• Southwest Region School District

• Yukon Flats School District

• Yukon-Koyukuk School District

• Yupiit School District

OVERALL EVALUATION RESULTS

In the closing session of the Summer Institute, participants were  asked to rate the sessions, provide ideas they had for future RAPPS Institutes and what follow-up support they wanted over the next school year. The evaluation survey responses were very positive across all aspects of the Summer Institute.

The following are the results of this evaluation survey:

• 100% wanted another similar institute next year
• 94% reported this institute as a valuable learning experience
• 95% learned new ideas/techniques that they intend to use
• 98% reported that the Institute was well organized

Ideas for future RAPPS Institutes:

• Allow more time for district teams to meet and work together
• Reduce the number of topics and allow more time for in-depth  understanding
• More information on what is working in rural isolated bush districts to meet AYP
• Conduct follow-up Institute sessions during the school year
• Use local district/community resources for panel discussions
• Continue using cadre of expert presenters
• Use presenters with Alaska bush experience
• Include more cultural responsiveness

Survey Results

At the conclusion of the Summer Institute, participants were asked to complete an evaluation survey.  The survey included statements corresponding to a Lykert-Type Scale, with 1 as "No Agreement" and 5 as "Total Agreement". Participants were asked to rate their levels of agreement to each statement using the scale. 

Evaluation results were very positive with all mean scores above 4 and several close to 5 on the rating scale.
